Queenstown Brewers: Our Beers
Steam Brew
Californian Common Ale
Our Original brew inspired by the intrepid miners of the Wakatipu Gold Rush. The gold miners brought with them a thirst for a beer that originated in the Californian goldfields. It was called ‘Steam’ – a highly charged brew that let off a good head of steam when the barrels were tapped. Californian
style beer – a brown ale with the smooth richness of a lager and the fruity bitterness of an ale.”
The 25oz Pilsner takes its name from a 25oz gold nugget that was found on the outskirts of Queenstown in 1870. It was reported in the press that the miners who found it subsequently went on a bender and kept the local Wakatip Brewery busy for some time!

Wry Red
Our Red Rye IPA is brewed with 6 malts, a good 25% wollop of them being Rye Malt from Germany. The rest are all grown in the South Island, as are the 3 types of hops thrown in the boil. It gets its name from the irony that Southlanders very seldom roll the R when saying Rye or Red. So we
added a handful of RRRR’s on the end so as not to disappoint!

Dead Snake Porter
Dead Snake Porter is a dark malty beer made for the cold winter months. It is inspired by the first snake sighting in Queenstown in March 1894 which had hitched its way over from Australia to the Wakatip Brewery in a crate of bottles. It escaped, but it would not have survived the approaching winter.
A good reason to celebrate the cold which keeps our town snake free!
Long John Bottomless Golden Brew
Our summer session beer. Named after an old Queenstown identity, who used to rent row boats in Queenstown Bay, back in the middle of last century.
The hallmark of this brew is the biscuity and juicy malt character derived from pale malts, underscored by tart citrus fruit and peppery hops. This is a thirst quenching brew, served cool.
